Hajime sat in her room with her long purple hair pooled around her. “Why did you leave me mother?” she cried as she stared at a painting of her and her parents in happier times. Like the other girl she was young she had friends no other could see. She would try to make friend but when she told them of the spirits she could see the other kids would call her a freak and run away. Since her mother’s passing her father had become withdrawn and forbade Hajime to speak of her mother.

“Hajime,” a voice spoke softly.

The girl looked up to see a woman with shoulder length black hair wearing a white dress before her. “Mother,” cried Hajime reaching out to the woman. “I need you.”

The woman smiled a sad smile. “I did not want to leave you but it was my time. I am sorry I never believed you when you said you could see spirits,” Hina’s spirit tried to console her daughter. “The legends must be true.”

“What legends Mother!” inquired the young girl.

“One day there will come a girl with the ability to put the wandering spirits of Saturn to peace. A child whom can see the spirits,” her mother told her.

“The spirits are not at rest?” Hajime questioned.

Hina nodded sadly. “No spirit of Saturn has passed to the Land Beyond since the Gate to the afterlife was closed by the Phantom. Many have tried and failed. Only the chosen can open the gate and bring the spirits of Saturn to rest.”

“What happens to the spirits mother,” Hajime paused as the winds howled outside her window. “What will happen to you?”

“I along with the other spirits wander the land constantly,” Hina replied solemnly.

“Then why do I not see more spirits,” Hajime inquired. “Shouldn’t I see them everywhere instead of occasionally?”

“Most spirits stay in the uninhabited parts of Saturn hoping to be the first to go through the gate.”

“I can’t do this,” Hajime shook her head sending her long purple hair swaying around her.

“You must,” was the last thing Hina said before disappearing.

“Mother!” screamed Hajime with tears down her face.

“Freak!” she heard someone yell.

“Hajime,” her father said gruffly with a disapproving tone. “If you keep behaving like this you will dishonor me.”

Hajime sighed and stared at the floor unable to meet her father’s eyes. “It happened again,” she thought realizing she was not in her room but in the Great Hall with her father as she listened to his people’s needs. Hajime had been having the same dream ever since her mother died only she could no longer call them dream as they had been occurring while she was awake with no warning. Hajime spent the rest of the session staring at the floor and speaking while praying to all the Gods it would not happen again.

“You must,” Hajime head a faint whisper as she shot her slumber. Sweat covered her body while her legs were tangled in white sheets and her purple hair pooled around her.

“You must,” she heard her mother’s voice repeated.

“This is happening more,” Hajime groaned. “Father would not miss me,” she thought rising from her bed, “no one would.” Her mind made up Hajime went to her wardrobe and pulled out three pieces of black cloth, which would cover her entire body and head leaving only an opening for her eyes. The first piece of black cloth she wrapped twice around her hips starting with her right hip and tucked in the extra cloth. The second piece of cloth around her body starting at her right shoulder, then angled it down over her left hip and around her back, then from behind her back over her right hip to her left shoulder where the excess hung loosely over her back. The third piece of cloth she wrapped her hair in and loosely over her face so she could shield her face from the sting of the sand.

Hajime took one last look around her room not knowing if she would return. The grabbing her sack she quietly left the palace and headed the dessert lands.

Hajime walked toward the dead lands. She knew she must not be a sound mind for coming to the dead lands and pulled the cloth tighter around her as the wind whipped around her throwing sand, which stung her exposed skin. “Why am I the only one who can bring peace to the spirits,” Hajime thought.

Hajime pushed again the winds as she neared the dead lands. “Mother!” she screamed. “Helped me! What do I do? How do I gain the power to save the spirits and help them cross over?” Hajime stumbled and fell to the ground as the sand stung and slashed her skin. Looking down she noticed her exposed skin was bleeding as if many unseen daggers had cut her. “Why are you trying to stop me?” Hajime yelled at the spirits. “I am trying to bring you peace.”
“There will be no way to save them all,” Hajime heard her mother’s voice in her head. “There are spirits that have grown bitter with time from being unable to reach the afterlife. They wish only to bring the pain of what they feel to others.” Hajime again heard her mother’s voice in her head as she lost consciousness from the pain.

When she opened her eyes there was sleeping deer near her. “Why is there an animal here?” she thought. Then with a suddenly realization Hajime knew what she must do. Not taking her eyes from the animal, she felt for her bag and withdrew a dagger. Her hand shook as she held her dagger. She had not killed before and wished she did not have to now. As she approached, the deer did not move but only stared at her with large knowing eyes that seem to try to comfort Hajime. Quickly with strength she did not know she had Hajime plunged the dagger in the animal’s heart as its blood ran over her hands. “I am sorry,” Hajime whispered as tears rolled down her face. “Thank you,” she bowed to the deer sighed and closed its eyes. Then with knowledge that seem to come from her ancestors, Hajime skinned the animal and made a ceremonial dress from its hide and horns. Chanting in a language Hajime had never heard she drank the blood while she danced around the fire before again falling into unconsciousness.

When Hajime opened her eyes there was a small fairy before her dressed in strange white and purple cloths with long purple hair holding a polearm silver staff. “How did you get here?” demanded the fairy as she flew around Hajime’s head.

“I drank the blood of the deep and spoke words I have never heard before,” Hajime replied with a still heavy heart from killing the animal.

“That doesn’t explain how you got here,” demanded the fairy. “No one get here.” She paused. “Not since he closed the Gate.” Suddenly the fairy flew close to Hajime’s chest as a glint of light caught her eye. “Where did you get this?” using her staff to point at Hajime’s necklace.

Hajime touch the pendant. “It has been in my family for many years. My mother gave it to me.”

“Maybe you are the one,” the fairy whispered staring at the pendant, which looked exactly like the head of her staff.

“My mother said the same thing,” Hajime replied. “I do not understand what I am supposed to do.”

“When the Phantom closed the Gate it was said there would be one who would be the beginning of the end bringing peace to the spirits of Saturn and one day letting them again pass through the door to the afterlife.”

“I want to help my mother and the other spirits but I have no power,” Hajime insisted.
“You have all the power you need,” the fairy smiled as she watched Hajime glow a faint purple. “Take your necklace off and hold it out,” she instructed. Hajime did as instructed, the fairy tapped the necklace with her staff, and Hajime began to glow brighter.

Dark purple ribbons sprang from the fairy’s staff and covered Hajime’s body. The sigil of Saturn burn on her brow and turned into a silver tiara with a white stone in the center. The ribbon around her neck turned into a purple chocker with a silver sigil of Saturn while the ribbons around her chest and midsection formed a white body suit. Holding her arms in front of her the ribbons changed into white elbow length gloves with three purple armbands. Two purple ribbons swirled around her chest and shoulders to form a purple collar and a maroon bow on her chest. Two more ribbons swirled around her waist to form a purple skirt and a maroon bow on the lower back of her cloth. The ribbons on her legs formed purple knee-high boots with silver laces. Hajime’s necklace turned into a larger version of the polearm staff that the fairy held. Finally, the fairy took her staff and touched Hajime’s chest in the center of her bow, which formed a multi-point crystal star brooch.

“You are the warrior of Saturn,” the fairy told her. “You will be the anchor between this world and the world of the living. Each person who has passed will come to you and his or her spirit will pass through you. You will take their pain as they enter to the afterlife.”

“Will it hurt?” asked Hajime.

The fairy nodded. “Yes.”

Hajime nodded. “It is my honor and my duty to protect my planet and my people.” Hajime looked at the darkness around her. “How do I open the gate between here and the world of the living to let the spirits pass through?”

“Hold your staff, the Silence Glaive, and call out ‘Death Reborn Revolution,’” instructed the fairy.

Hajime held the Silence Glaive out before her and shouted, “Death Reborn Revolution!” A large number of lavender ribbons appeared winding around her body while tearing at the darkness as she dropped the Silence Glaive.

In a flash of light Hajime was standing in front of the countless spirits in a field. Out of crowd stepped Hajime’s mother. “I knew you would open the Gate my daughter.” She gave her daughter a final hug. “You look so beautiful.”

Hajime watched as the spirit of her mother and all the other spirits turned into butterflies. “Goodbye Mother,” Hajime whispered.

There was another flash of light and Hajime was staring up at Saturn’s sky. Looking around she saw she was lying near the fire and wearing the ceremonial dress she had made from the deer hide. “Guess I should go back home.”

Walking back through her town, she heard people whispered “Shi” and “Shi Hime.”

                                      *        *        *        *

“Father,” Hajime said walking into the throne room.

“She Hime,” her father whispered before catching himself. He could not take his eyes off his daughter. “There is a woman who has been waiting for you.”

A girl with green hair wearing a similar outfit to Hajime’s warrior cloth in black and maroon appeared holding a large key shaped staff with a heart shaped top. “I am Kanakaku, the warrior of Pluto. You are the last one to awaken. We have been waiting for you. I have come by order of Queen Serenity form Earth’s Moon to bring you to the others.”

Hajime looked at her father who quickly nodded. “Yes I will go with you,” she agreed.

“Is there anything you need before we leave?” asked Kanakaku.

“No,” Hajime replied touching her mother’s necklace.

Kanakaku held her staff above her head and then struck the floor. Before her a swirling lavender gray portal appeared. Kanakaku smiled and held her hand out, “You destiny and future await, Princess of Saturn.”

Hajime took Kanakaku’s hand and before her mind could process what she saw in the portal, they were standing in a hallway before a large white door. “Where are we?” Hajime asked looking around.

“We are in the Moon Palace of Earth’s Moon Kingdom, home to Queen Serenity the wielder of the Silver Crystal,” explained Kanakaku and then she looked at Hajime. “Please transform into your warrior cloths. It is time to meet your fellow warriors and our Queen.” Kanakaku nodded to the guards who opened the doors. “Queen Serenity and my fellow warriors,” Kanakaku began in a loud voice, “I would like to introduce the last   planet warrior, Hajime, the warrior of Saturn.”

Selene quickly ran to the purple haired warrior and wrapped her in a hug. “I am so glad you are finally here,” she beamed.

Artemis sighed, “My Queen.”

“Really Artemis,” grumbled the Queen, “must you take all the fun out of everything.”

“No Selene but you forget I know you,” the white haired man smiled. “I am your advisor and as such I ask if the warrior of Saturn is going to show her power then cat if be done outside in the training area where there are no walls.”

“How many times do I have to say that was not my fault,” two of warriors said in unison.

Hajime smiled because for the first time in a long time no one called her a freak.

“So,” Selene began eagerly, “What is your power?”

“To end the world,” Hajime replied quietly suddenly ashamed.

A girl with shoulder length black hair streaked red stepped forward. “So you are as powerful as the Scared Flame said. I am Hine of Mars.”

Seeing that no one was turning away from her she continued, “My staff, the Silence Glaive, can also be used to form a barrier of black lighting. In addition, I am the anchor between this world and the spirit word. All spirits must pass through me on the way to the land of the dead and I take their pain into myself.”

                                      *        *        *        *

Queen Serenity, Selene, tells all the Senshi their titles and positions.

Mercury – Warrior of Water and Wisdom, Strategist of the Inner Warriors
Mars – Warrior of Fire and Passion, Sight of the Inner Warriors
Jupiter – Warrior of Lighting and Protection, Strength of the Inner Warriors
Venus – Warrior of Beauty and Light, Wielder of the Holy Moon Blade and leader of the Inner Warriors
Pluto – Warrior of Time, Wielder of the Time Key, Guardian of the Space Time Corridor, one third of the key to the end
Uranus – Warrior of the Wind, Wielder of the Space Sword, Guardian of the outer regions, one third of the key to the end, Leader of the Outer Warriors
Neptune – Warrior of the Ocean, Wield of the Aqua Mirror, Guardian of the outer regions, one third of the key to the end
Saturn – Warrior of Destruction, and Rebirth

“Saturn, you alone have the power to end whole planets. You will sleep until needed. Your powers will lay asleep inside you.” Selene told Hajime. “You are all Queens of your plants. Go rule wisely. The daughters of the Inner Warriors will be raised on the Moon for their training and act as the Moon Princess’ personal guard until they reach the age of ascension. At that time they will go back to their own planets to rule.”

Kankaku stepped forward, “I have seen it. Once we bear daughters and they claim their birthright we will lose our powers as they will be passed on to a new generation.”
